During the peak of winter, Big Sandy Area Community Action Program (BSACAP) delivered essential heating assistance to thousands of residents who maintain safe and reliable home energy service.

From January through March, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Winter Crisis component helped 4,312 households maintain heating service, reducing the risk of shutoffs and fuel shortages during periods of extreme cold.

The impact of this support reached residents of all ages, including 2,289 children aged 17 years and younger and 1,714 older adults aged 60 and above.

More than $1.6 million in emergency energy assistance was issued throughout BSACAP’s service area, covering Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin, and Pike counties. These funds played a vital role in stabilizing households facing immediate heating crises.

Winter Crisis Benefits Distributed:

  • 3,347 electric benefits
  • 2,185 propane benefits
  • 788 kerosene benefits
  • 75 natural gas benefits
  • 72 coal/wood benefits

These results reflect the agency’s continued commitment to protecting the health, safety, and well-being of the communities it serves. By working together with local partners and support networks, BSACAP remained focused on ensuring that no family had to face winter without heat.
