BSACAP LogoSign-ups for Big Sandy Area Community Action Program’s annual Garden Seed Program will be taken on a first come, first serve basis April 27 – May 1, or until funds are exhausted. 

The Garden Seed Program offers qualifying low-income households $40 in vouchers to purchase seeds, plants, and fertilizer at local vendors so that area families can build a garden at their home. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the agency will be operating the program a little bit differently than in years past. Those interested in the Garden Seed program are asked to call their local office or visit www.bsacap.org/contact and leave a message with your name, phone number or email address and stating that you want to apply fo the Garden Seed Program. 

The time a person calls or sends a message through the website will determine the order that each person is added to the program. No phone calls or emails related to the Garden Seed program will be accepted before 8 a.m. on Monday, April 27.

BSACAP staff will contact people who sent an email or left a phone message on or before May 4th in order to make arrangements with them to collect the required documentation and mail their voucher. 

To be eligible for the program, a household must: 

  • Meet income eligibility guidelines 
  • Provide proof of income from the previous month 
  • Have the social security numbers for all household members 
  • Have a metered utility bill to verify their address 

Documentation does not need to be provided until after a BSACAP staff member has contacted you back. 

Vendors interested in providing Garden Seed Program items (seeds, plants, fertilizer for food bearing gardens) during the 2020 Garden Seed Program administered through Big Sandy Area Community Action Program must contact the central office at 606-789-6515, Option 2 by Friday, May 1, 2020 in order to sign up. 

Last year, 376 households in the BSACAP service area of Floyd, Johnson, Martin, Magoffin, and Pike counties received garden seed vouchers. Clients grow and maintain their gardens by themselves and are able to reap the fruits of their labor.  

This program is funded, in part, by the Community Services Block Grant made available by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
